Howden Compressors designs and manufactures rotary screw compressors that are used for a variety of demanding gas compression and refrigeration duties.

At their manufacturing plant in Glasgow, Howden produces bare-shaft screw compressor units that are supplied globally to their partner packagers. This allies Howden's engineering expertise with local knowledge, and enables strong support to be provided to clients.

Howden serves the refrigeration and process gas handling markets, as well as supplying units for boosting gas turbines' fuel gas pressure and a variety of other applications. Over the years they have supplied 25,000 screw compressor units worldwide.

Having taken the first ever licence for screw compressor technology from Svenska Rotor Maskiner in 1939, Howden pioneered the commercialisation of the screw compressor technology, and today remains at the forefront of its development.
