Leading supplier of hose connectors and emergency release systems

MIB™ onshore & offshore hose connectors

Since the first High Pressure Connector was supplied by MIB to Petrobras in 1978, the company has provided nearly 200 single and multibore systems for service on floating production/flexible riser applications to several major players in the oil, gas & petrochemical industries.

Flexible riser connector system

Increasing development of marginal oil fields located in areas where extreme weather conditions prevail has led to the use of high pressure flexible risers and umbilical control lines in these scenarios. This trend highlighted the need for connection/disconnection devices between subsea well-heads and production platforms.

MIB has supplied many custom-designed, high pressure flexible riser coupler systems for production, injection and control umbilical lines on floating systems world-wide.

Based on the proven MIB integrated coupler and ball valve design, these systems offer minimal spillage, high angular release, extended maintenance-free periods and long service life installed at the deck or turret level, or subsurface on FPV pontoon, shut off and disconnection of the flexible risers is provided under normal or emergency conditions. Reconnection is also a diverless operation.

Key features of the QCDC system include:

  • Fast hook-up
  • Emergency release
  • Integral ball valves
  • Single/multiline
  • 25 year design life
  • High angular release
  • Field proven design
  • Pressure up to 10,000 psi
  • Sweet & sour service
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Esd valving

Bend stiffener connector system

MIB's latching system for installation of bend stiffeners to lower turret guide tubes, hang-offs or semi-submersible pontoons offers:

  • Diverless operation for connection
  • Automatic de-latch of riser end fitting/pull-in head
  • Disconnection & reuse
  • 25 year design life
  • Pre-loaded mechanism offering excellent fatigue resistance
  • Proven components and latching principles
  • Adaptable to all sizes, loads and riser design
  • Welded or flanged attached to "I" and "J" tubes
  • Minimal interfacing requirements
  • Compact & lightweight construction
  • Minimal pull-in forces

Diverless latching system enables quick, cost-effective installation of bend stiffeners to either "I" or "J" tubes in what are often very congested and confined spaces.

Following latching of the stiffener, the device automatically goes on to release of riser end fitting to allow pull-in through up to the turret hang off deck.

The winch loads required for operation are minimal and no secondary pull-in load is required for end fitting release. The device is fully ROV disconnectable and subsequently reusable without replacement of any mechanical parts.

Competitively priced, the system can be customised to meet the specific needs of each project, vessel, riser system, client or installation method.

Multi-purpose hose connector

Enhance the safety of offshore transfer operations by means of a simple, quick, manual release device incorporated at the hose to manifold interface.

The MIB Multi-Purpose Hose Coupler provides protection against sudden changes in weather or sea-state, excessive vessel motion and drift, or other adverse operating conditions that would necessitate rapid disconnection of the transfer hose string(s).

The system comprises a male hub with machined grooves and a female assembly housing the locking block mechanism. By means of a manual lever (lanyard operated from a remote/safe distance), rotation of an outer collar, the locking blocks are engaged and disengaged as required.

Systems are available in sizes from 6" to 20" diameter. The equipment is rated for a maximum working pressure of 19 bar (ANSI 150) as standard, although other ratings are available upon request.

Materials and seals are selected to suit the specific application and products being transferred. Where required, the system will be supplied suitable for long term operation in a marine environment, i.e. submerged, floating or salt-laden atmosphere.

With standard flanged or studded end terminations, systems can be easily and quickly installed on both new or existing terminals.

For added safety, as well as environmental protection, the Multi-Purpose Hose Coupler can be supplied with an integral butterfly valve for hose isolation. A built-in interlock between the valve and connector is another standard MIB feature.

A further optional feature is that of a manual Rotacam coupler for the connection/disconnection of the hose string to the vessel manifold under normal operating conditions. This can also include a blank flange for recovery of the hose from the sea and it’s pull in up to the vessel manifold area.
