RTD™ penetrant inspection
Penetrant inspection is a technique in which a colored penetration liquid is used. It is applied to a cleaned object and penetrates cracks, gaps and other pores. It is then made visible by means of a developer. In this way surface breaking defects can be detected.
Dye penetrant inspection allows us to trace surface defects and defects that run to the surface. This inspection method uses penetration liquid. This liquid penetrates cracks, gaps and other pores and is made visible by means of a developer.
Application
Penetrant inspection can be used on practically all materials. However, a condition is that the materials have a solid shape and are non-porous.
As a rule this concerns nonmagnetizable materials. Penetration liquid is applied to the thoroughly cleaned object. Surplus penetration liquid is removed and the surface is dried, after which a thin, even layer of developer is applied. Indications are made visible and the nature, size and location are judged with the aid of an inspection standard.
The shape or the dimensions of the object do not (generally) form a problem for penetration inspection. As with the other forms of standard non-destructive testing that RTD carries out, penetration inspection can also be used well in the field and/or in (production) companies.
